Sharpness

f/2 This lens is very sharp wide open with a hint of softness but mostly it is clouded over with spherical aberration and some side coma which causes low contrast.
f/2.8: Immediately sharpens up really well with better contrast and hardly any spherical aberration and only a little coma left over.
f/3.5: Very sharp with great contrast and almost no coma.
f/4: Sharper yet.
f/8: Just continues to get sharper.

Vignetting
There is a bit of vignetting at f/2 starts to clear around f/2.8 and basically gone by f/3.5.

Distortion
There is a bit of common Barrel Distortion which is expected for a 28mm with a larger aperture.

This is a great lens and definitely worth looking for. They are not too common, and you may have to pay a fair bit for them, but they are still a bargain at today’s manual focus prices. Simply stopping the lens down to f/2.2-2.5 really clears the coma and spherical aberration. By f/2.8 you have one of the sharpest 28mm lenses around for the price.

This lens is build very well and you can feel it. It’s still smaller then most 28mm f/2.8 lenses which is really nice because you get a f/2 in a smaller package.

One thing you have to be very careful of is this lens has a very common problem of oil leaking into the aperture which will slow down or stop the blades from moving and stopping down.
