Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Macro D VS. Non D. If you’re looking to purchase one of these lenses I always check Adorama and Ebay for good deals. It helps me if you purchase it through one of these links here in this review. When you purchase through these links it financially enables me to devote time to develop this site further. Thanks for the help! -Todd
Without question skip the older Non D version and go for the newer D version if your looking for a good priced AF 60mm lens. There are some people who say the D and Non D versions are the exact same and the only difference is the D version has the updated distance metering focus system for the fill flash. When I did these test shots I had a total of 7 60mm lenses (3 D, 4 Non D) and they all gave me the same results. The D versions were far superior from the Non D.
Mechanically they are the same but optically they are completely different and I think it is more then just a multicoating issue.
In every test the D is way sharper, better color and contrast and slightly less chromatic aberration. Looking at the last photos with the cropped lens flare you can really see the difference in color and sharpness.
