Sharpness
f/2.8: This lens is super sharp wide open with great contrast and with only a bit of Chromatic Aberration.
f/8: Basically from f/3.5 the lens just continues to get sharper with better contrast and almost no Chromatic aberration. f/8 is crazy sharp.

Vignetting

There is very little vignetting and is basically gone by f/3.5

Bokeh

The bokeh is a little distracting circles but not too bad.

This lens is absolutely great for doing macro work and even decent portraits. Built like a tank, good pocket lens, crazy sharp photos stopped down.
One thing to be aware of is that this is a body driven focus system to run the Auto Focus so it will loose auto focus on the armature Nikon bodies.

I used this and the new AF-s lenses for years and loved them however for live critters I prefer having a longer focal length because you can stay back without scaring them away. If you have the money and are serious about macro photography you might want to skip this lens and go for a longer macro lens.
