Sharpness
f/2.8: A bit soft, with quite a bit of coma and some spherical aberration which drowns out contrast a bit.
f/3.5: Sharpens up, but still has some coma and spherical aberration but better contrast.
f/4: A lot sharper but still a bit of spherical aberration.
f/8: Sharper but nothing to get too excited about.

Vignetting
Quite a bit of vignetting at f/2.8, clearing off around f/4 and gone by f/8.

Distortion

Barrel Distortion is not too bad on this lens and typical for a 28mm.

This lens is fine if you plan on using it for landscape photography when stopped down to smaller apertures. Wide open this lens is pretty soft with some spherical aberration and coma. Stopped down this lens is swell.

With the metal focus grip this lens looks really old and dated. It is a pretty large and heavy lens for a f/2.8. Looking at the optical elements and how they are placed in the lens they look very old fashioned and not multi-coated.

If you stumble upon one of these lens then it’s probably worth trying out but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find one of these. Stopping the lens down though gives good results and you can’t go wrong if you find a good deal.
